waiting for a 10 footer

wanted to go for bigger game. bought the 113w for its line capacity and dependability. put it on a carnage II rod. 4th cast 69" shark. that setup worked flawlessly. only worry was how good hook got set (ended up with perfect hook set)... couple other big hits throughout the week, reel got drug in the sand twice. still the reel worked flawlessly. waited till home to maintain it. very easy to take apart for regreasing.(impressively not one grain of sand inside reel)

I purchased this reel about a month ago, and just like everyone else has been saying, this is the Baja Special updated. Penn did a great job, the Baja Special has long been a favorite out here, and this reel is sure to gain the same great reputation. The reel performed flawlessly it's first time out landing a nice yellowfin tuna. I highly recommend this reel and am extremely pleased with my purchase.

My choice for bottom fishing and deep drop

My reel repair man recommended this reel to me when I asked for a reel to use for deep dropping for tilefish or wreck and bottom-fishing for pollock, haddock, cod in New England. This reel is perfect for cranking heavy weight and big fish from hundreds of feet of water with its solid gears and frame and the 4.3:1 ratio. These reels can last a lifetime with proper maintenance.
