This is the second time I have purchased this product since I wanted to bake two pies at the same time. The ring protects the pastry edging from burning yet allows it to brown nicely. It is so much quicker than trying to fashion an aluminum foil ring for that purpose. As far as I can tell, the product lasts forever.
