Great Networking Device

This review is about the TRENDnet Powerline 1200 AV2 Adapter Kit consists of two TPL-420E2K adapters. It boasts a speed up to 1.2Gbps, and is good for home streaming. With MIMO technology, it uses existing electrical lines in the walls to create a network that can share Internet connection from the router. Plug in the first adapter, network it to the existing router, and then plug in the other adapter(s) on the same electrical system and they all will auto-connect to the first adapter and you have your internet access up and going. Actually, you can connect up to seven adapters to share a Broadband connection, all without using ugly Ethernet cables. Love the auto-connect feature! The adapters are pre-encrypted and connect over electrical lines for homes up to 5,000 square feet. Each adapter, plugged into a dedicated electrical outlet in a room will bring the Internet broadband connection into that room, and then you can connect network computers and other devices to it as usual. It is best that the adapters are plugged into the wall socket and not into the power strips / surge suppressors or GFCI outlets. The adapter transmitting the Internet signal should be directly connected to the router as shown on the package, and not through a network switch and then to the router. The adapter is quite compact, measuring 2"W x 2 3/4"H x 1 1/16"D. It is made of a quality white plastic with a glossy finish (easy to clean up if needed). There are three indicator lights on the adapter, PWR for power, PL for power line, and ETH for ethernet. The PL (power line) indicator can display three colors used to point out the signal quality, Green is best, Orange is better, and Red is good. Although the adapters will connect out of the box and no software needs to be installed in order to begin using this network, the CD is provided that contains Utility and User Guide in several languages. You can use the CD if you want to see the detailed information about the network such as signal quality, transfer rate, password, and MAC address of each adapter. You can also use the CD to change the encryption password if needed. This device works very well, and TRENDnet offers a generous three years of warranty. Highly recommended.

Worked within two minutes, now that's impressive!

This is my first TRENDnet product and it is very impressive. Installation was so easy and quick, it is literally less than two minutes!! The package comes with two adapters. I connected first adapter to my router's Ethernet port and plugged the adapter to a power outlet. All the LEDs turned solid green. I then connected second adapter to another power outlet and connected my laptop to Ethernet port on the adapter and boom! it was connected to the internet. I checked the speed and it was 1 GBPS, that's maximum possible with my router's Ethernet port. I was amazed how easy it was, it paired itself automatically and I did not have to do anything. There is one downside with this adapter; it does not have its own power outlet, so you do lose one power outlet. It has many positives: 1) If you have two outlets (top and bottom), you connect this to the bottom one and you can use the top one without any issues. In other word, it does not block the top one. 2) I connected second adapter to the farthest power outlet from the first adapter and it worked flawlessly with the same speed! 3) I noticed that if I disconnect my laptop then within a few minutes the adapter goes into sleep mode; all LEDs go off and come alive as soon I connect again. So it seems to save the power usage. 4) I used it with 1200AV adapter from another vendor and it all worked together without issue, I did not have to pair or do anything else! I am very impressed with this TRENDnet adapter and would recommend to anyone anytime.

Fast and small

I've been using powerline adapters all over my home for years- on both metal sheathed (BX) and plastic sheathed Romex wiring and they all connect. Just plug them in and they work! Super easy. And the connection is fast and solid, so can replace hard-wiring for devices requiring exceptional connections like servers, HTPCs and TV extension boxes. This model is the fastest AV protocol small form factor adapter from Trendnet, called AV2 at this gigabit/1200 speed. You must connect one directly to your router or switch with an Ethernet cable to send the signal through your house. Then you can plug the other one anywhere to connect devices. You can achieve max speeds if you have a gigabit router, (and gigabit switch if connecting to one) and use cat 5E or cat 6 cables (included), and all adapters in the network are gigabit (1200AV/AV2). These are backward compatible with all powerline AV (200, 500) adapters and I've found an AV500 adapter on the network decreases download speeds about 10% but only when its device is in use. They are also compatible with other brand's AV adapters. These mix with TP-Link easily. They are deeper than the 500AV model but same general size- in inches 3L x 2 1/4 W x 1 11/16D. These are very good basic super-fast adapters.
