I have a pretty long run for my dryer vent that has a 90d elbow in it. I have been using some home depot brushes for years that are about 2-3 feet long. I have been using these short brushes along with my vacuum cleaner with hoses and my shop-vac to push and pull as much stuff out as possible. I thought I had the line pretty clear because with the shop-vac inside pushing air outwards, I felt the air flow was pretty good. But I got a new dryer recently and the check vent light kept coming on. That's when I went looking for something better to clean the line. As you might expect, my first thought is will this device clear the elbow. The answer is yes. The six rods are very flexible like the poles from a tent, but not nearly as stiff. Keep in mind that the vents are 4in wide, so the rods don't need to bend a full 90d. I discovered using this tool that I had a bunch of lint wedged up in the middle of the run. The wedge was to hard to push from the inside, so I attacked from the outside. I used a combination of the shop-vac pushing air out while I worked the cleaning brush from the outside. At some points, the brush wouldn't go any further, so I simply unscrewed the brush and used the long rod to attack the lint mass. The air pushing out helps to blow the loosened material out. After about an hour of working on the vent, I can say I have the whole run lint free. I am now able to use the tool from both inside and outside. As the directions state, only turn in a clockwise direction to keep the rods screwed together. Counter-clockwise turning may result in the rods coming apart. The picture shows all the rust covered lint that was stuck inside the dryer run. This tool was certainly worth the $18.
