Acute respiratory illness in childhood stage is a major contributing factor in the child morbidity and the mortality. The national control of ARI program is an integral component of Primary health care as well as the MDG and has accorded high priority by the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP). MoHP focuses the proper recognition of sign and symptoms and appropriate treatment at the community level to reduce the national burden of the morbidity and mortality among under five age children and to meet the MDG's goal. FCHV's are the first contact person at the community level, working as the backbone of the existing health system of Nepal. Hence, this study is important to find out the existing knowledge and practices on ARI among the FCHV's working in Nepal. Another important aspect is that very few researches have been conducted in this area. This type of study is also important for local level planning and management of childhood respiratory disease at community level during the era of CB-IMCI.Also this study will be useful for the upcoming researchers for their study in the respective area.
