Life Supply Indoor Outdoor 25 ft 12 Gauge Extension Cord Review: The cord isn't flat...I wasn't sure from the photo in the listing, but it's not flat. Which seems a little unusual for a 12 gauge cord, at least to me. The flatness is supposed to help disperse the heat it produces, I believe. That said, I had ordered this cord as an extra robust cord to run the washing machine outside and I had also ordered a flat one (from another store) to run a window air conditioner. However, my car broke down and I wasn't able to go pick up the shorter flat cord to run the AC. Cue the Christmas heatwave and this one has been running the AC just great. Nothing is overheating so far. We're running it on the middle plug Normally, you would want to use the shortest extension cord you could and you would want it to be flat I believe and 10 or 12 gauge...you have to watch the amp and watt requirements. It cost more than I originally wanted to spend, but it was on sale and comparable in price to another one that was on sale elsewhere, but a higher number gauge, (which means the other one couldn't handle as much). Also, they would send this one with the free shipping included. So I'm sure glad that I bought this one--it's almost 80 degrees today and high humidity with no wind. Which makes it especially hard to sleep if you have any kind of a breathing problem, especially with the exceptionally poor air quality here. and then once you start losing sleep your life is kind of ruined. The manufacturer makes a point of saying that you need to uncoil it--which goes for any extension cord--and lay it as flat and straight out as you can so that it doesn't overheat. That's really, really important. And it highlights the importance of getting the length that you really need. I also want to mention that it smelled terrible to me and made me not feel good and get a headache when it first arrived. Now I'm okay with it. I guess it had to off-gas a little, I don't know. But, so far, we're very glad to have it. I'll update this if it anything changes.
