One of the best ever!

If you have seen HBO's miniseries, you know they do an outstanding job (Band of Brothers, John Adams, Generation Kill) and this is no exception. The series is broken down into episodes focusing on one certain mission or theme, but characters bridge across them. The really interesting thing is that since all the episodes are directed by seperate people you get a lot of individuality and it keeps it exciting and fresh. I am absolutely obsessed with the space program and this is one of the best representations of the Mercury/Gemini/Apollo era on film right up there with Apollo 13 and The Right Stuff. AND at around $12 now it is an absolute steal! When this came out it was almost $100! If you like great storytelling and want to see a movie about real-life American heroes, you need to see this!

A Great Look Back . . .

. . . at a time and an event that made America great. The 12-part series does an excellent job of combining original programming with documentary footage to provide a political and social look back at "the space program" that began with the Mercury 7 astonauts and has stalled with the current lack of funding for moon or Mars missions. The DTS sound is outstanding and the 16:9 aspect of this "Signature Edition" does not significantly eliminate any top- or bottom- of-screen information from the original (shot in 4:3, no DTS sound). A great item to have in the video library when the olde folkes come to visit for the holidays, for the kids to see where we've been, and for the rest of us to see how a lot of tax dollars went to very good use, once upon a time in America.

AWESOME!!!!

I've watched the Mini Series multiple times.. I watch it at least once a year.. It's fantastic, Tom Hanks and Company left no stone unturned in helping create this wonderful Mini Series.. Sadly this is a historic event that get's over looked in schools (or atleast mine it was) I recommend this for any parents that has a child that loves history.. I don't think I'll ever get tired of watching this..
