Soft material, although it is a little thin and, seems almost clingy at times like a weak static cling. The cling is due to the thin microfiber suede material. If you don't scoot around a lot, its won't be a problem. The wires seem a bit sparse. It only starts about a foot from bottom edge of the pad, and only goes up the back just under the shoulder blades, mid high back, not reaching the shoulders or neck. Although made for two on a love seat the wire is placed more toward the inside forcing you to sit right next to each other because there are no wires toward the ends, top and bottom, AND the arm flaps have no wire at all. Unless you have a tiny love seat, the whole thing seem a bit small for a love seat. In our situation We are using a old Astro van bench seat as a bench and there is a good four to six inches on each side where the pad doesn't come all the way out to the edges of our seat. Basically the pad is a nearly love seat seat sized heating pad. We got this to sit in our garage and watch the dog when the garage door is open and he is out in the yard. Our garage is a basically a screened in porch and we sit out there every single night. We do have coyotes, so keeping an eye on the dog is essential. Doing that in winter has been uncomfortably cold at times. So we got this to avoid having to dress like an Eskimo to watch the dog. The heat range is what you would expect in a heating pad, so it does get pretty warm, almost hot. It works well. Throwing a blanket over us on those cold winter days, keeps us nice and toasty. A heated electric blanket would do the same thing as this does, and maybe even better, but, you will pay twice the price. Given the choice, I would spend the extra money and go the electric blanket route as it offers a lot more choices and sizes. More color choices than just tan, would have been nice. Thicker material would have been nice, but we just put a thin blanket over it and its fine. You can see the 1 inch sewn in wire positioning in the pictures. More generous distribution of the wire and generally more of it would make this an exceptional deal, but the price would skyrocket, so I get it. There are dimples of vinyl like material similar to cheap cotton work gloves an the entire back to prevent slippage, the cling of the pad material is also what is keeping the pad in place. It all works to prevent slippage, we have had NO problem with the pad scooting out of placement. You won't get that with an electric blanket. For what we paid for it, It does what it is supposed to do. One star off for limited heat wiring, but, It works.
