I purchased this item a few weeks ago to replace a Rowenta DG580 that lasted a good 10 years. I hope to get as much use out of this unit.
Initial reaction: Very sturdy, I like the buttons (push buttons instead of rocker buttons), ceramic soleplate is very smooth moving. VERY hot, steam is very generous. There is also a light to notify when you need to add more water. It holds 5 cups!
It has the ability to be filled with water while in use, so no need to allow it to cool down before doing so. It also has a locking steam button - but you need to be careful that you don't accidently lock it when you place the iron onto it's holder. (ask me how I know - STEAM EVERYWHERE).
So far, it has an awesome amount of steam and plenty of heat to press out the most stubborn wrinkles in cotton and linen. Rather than a pressurized tank, it pumps the water into the tank to heat when you press the steam button; very different and this procedure produces an alarming noise when first heard. I haven't fine-tuned the heat-to-steam ratio yet, so I got water out of the iron holes instead of steam once (I didn't have the iron heat high enough), but it is a learning curve. I'm really enjoying the power of this iron. My old Rowenta must have been dying for some time, as the Kalorik leaves it in the dust.
Be aware, however, that you will need to purchase a cartridge for the water tank to remove calcium deposits. The unit only comes with one, and additional ones can ONLY be purchased through Kalorik. I have reached out to the company, and they were out of them but expect more in. They are really good about getting back to you if you call them.
I'd highly recommend this unit. It is more reasonably priced than a same-brand replacement for my old steam generator iron, and that alone is a huge pro. I like that the customer service is responsive, too.
