Abandoned by her mother as a child, and raised by poor relatives in a small coastal village, Ana, is the first member of her native-Hawaiian family to attend college and become a physician. After a devasting hurricane on the island of Kauai, she is tending the injured when she meets Niki, a Rus sian documentary filmmaker with his own deprived and turbulent past. As complex and powerful feelings grow between Ana and Niki, House of Many Gods becomes a story of colliding cultures, of the loss of family and identity, and ultimately of the redemptive power of love.
