Jill Zarin Uptown Collection Area Rug - Park Avenue (5' 3" Round Navy Blue/Ivory)

I am a big fan of Jill Zarin from Real Housewife of New York and love her modern collection. I love this modern and chic runner which really fits well for any apartment in my opinion. The light blue and geometric pattern is absolutely beautiful and elevates the space. Even though it's just a runner, it really makes a bit difference for my apartment. I am planning on getting a rug pad just so it doesn't slip around. In terms of the rug's pile, I like that it's lower and is very soft. I'm really happy with the runner and can't wait to get complimentary rugs from her brand for my other rooms in the apartment. I am writing this review as part of a contest.

First of all, I want to say that the pictures Walmart has of this rug are pretty accurate representation of the actual object. The colors of the real rug look right to me, meeting my expectations -- the rug is predominantly a light/powder blue that has darker gray-blue-teal long 'I' patterns underneath. The colors do appear a little lighter or darker under different lights, so I would say the pictures were taken under sunlight and if you are putting this rug in a spot further away from a window at your home, it's probably going to look just a bit darker. In any case, I found this a really pleasing and soothing color against light wood floors, and lighter color scheme makes me feel the space is bigger and happier. Secondly, this rug is truly on the standard/thin side rather than thick, shaggy and heavy. This is a positive point to me, because as a runner rug, I think of it as a rug to be tread on, to accentuate and decorate a pathway such as a long corridor or entrance area guiding me and my guests into the house. Alternatively, this is also a great piece to put right next to my bed as a protection for my feet in cold winter mornings, preventing them from coming into direct contact with the icy floor. In both cases, because I would actually be stepping onto the rug often, I want it to be easy to clean, and short-pile (flat) rugs are much better to vacuum, beat or shake out than shaggy ones. Additionally, I have stepped on a pin hidden in shaggier carpet before, so I would definitely recommend a thinner rug like this one, especially if you have kids, or if you like to walk around barefoot! There's minimal shedding from this rug, and it is made from polypropolene, the best kind of material if you may have allergies (also, vacuum often if you may be allergic to microscopic pests often found in rugs & beddings -- it helped my sister a little). Thirdly, the trim and the tight weave on this rug is what makes it look "Park Avenue Uptown" worthy. I love the silky thread sewing around the edges, it really shines and looks like quality. The design also is not just printed onto the rug. I flipped to the back and that tight weave is going to help the rug last a lot longer. Now onto the down side. I did not like the way the edges would curl up, away from the floor, when it was new. I tried to weigh down the edges, and I might attempt to curl it the other way later to see if that will fix the problem. But I definitely don't want to be tripping over it. Also, while this rug does not come with the rug pad, probably because a lot of common and cheap rug pads can often actually leave marks and ruin the floorboards over time, I am going to get a rug pad so that this won't slip around. Rug pads actually help extend life of the rug. It's just a little disappointing to me that there wasn't one attached to rug because separate pieces are a little more troublesome when cleaning. But quality rugs often don't come premade with a rug pad of course, so I guess a little more effort is worth it! I am writing this review as part of a contest.
