Mouth Conditioning: Be sure to wait 15 minutes before taking temperature after eating, drinking, or smoking.\n- Place the dot-matrix end of the thermometer under the tongue, as far back as possible into either side heat pocket. Press your tongue down and keep your mouth closed for 1 minute.\n- After 1 minute, remove the thermometer. Read in good lighting. The last green dot to turn black is the correct temperature. NexTemp retains this temperature reading for 20-seconds upon removal from mouth.
