Great experience and great laptop!

I need to start this by giving a BIG shout out to the Customer Service folks at Gateway! The computer arrived with a broken screen, and it took just a couple of emails and a new one was FedEx'd over night to me with a return label for the broken one! I cannot express strongly enough how that little detail makes ALL of the difference in the world to me! Truly hassle-free! Thank you Gateway!!!! Now to the machine itself. I chose this one over the others due to its rather robust features and specifications, and because of the fingerprint reader! It has many security features that have not been cumbersome, but really useful. In today's world, it's better to be armed with defense than to wait until it's too late. This machine is armed! The size of the unit is quite perfect for a mobile device! The screen is sharp and bright, the speed local and online is fine. Windows 10 is included and is Windows 10. The machine configuration hasn't stumbled at all running the typical 20 or more tabs simultaneously that my wife typically has running! However, the internal fan does kick on and off quite a bit, and the machine does feel warm (not alarmingly so, just more than our Chromebooks get). We are getting one of those mats with fans in it to help this little guy stay cool. You can decide if you want to do that or not for yourself. The battery time is SUPER! It's advertised high, but unlike so many other manufacturers claims, this guy has tested out to give a real full day of use without the power cord! Pretty amazing for a PC! For our needs, this Gateway meets and exceeds them all, and you can't do much better than Gateway's Customer Service!

Very Fine SSD Notebook

This Win10 SSD Notebook has some nices features: keyboard with a good size and great feel, high resolution screen, good battery life, better than average sound, and very fast performance thanks to it's i5 4 core 8 thread cpu and solid state storage. The unit feels solid and I think it's one I could actually take to a Court hearing with me and it would be useful. The keyboard lacks a dedicated Sleep key combination, which is a minor annoyance. But the Power button works in such a way that the Sleep function can be assigned to it using Windows Power Options, without losing the Power Off function. The F-key row is also dedicated to media functions, like volume, brightness, pause/play/forward/backward, with the actual F-keys being an Fn combination. Win10 is the Home version. A personal machine like this might make that reasonable, but I still cry out for Pro. While I find battery life claims are often suspect in general, this unit gives me a good 5 hours of average use before needing a charge. The only time I ever heard its cooling fan come on is during a recharge, and it was for brief intervals. The body is notched slightly in front to make it easier to open the lid, but the unit is light enough that I still found it a little awkward. The battery does not appear accessable (as it is in every other notebook and laptop I have ever used). It's difficult to be sure since the only instructions included is a 3x5 size card, single sided, that literally uses half of that to show how to plug it in and turn it on. The other half shows the external ports, features, and indicators. Navigating to the support website reveals that this Gateway model is actually a separate "licensee" of the Gateway brand (now owned by Acer). Support featued is very thin, at best, at this time. No manuals to DL. There are LEDs for power, caps lock, and num lock. No HD activity. Ports are USB 3.0 x2, USB 3.0 Type-C, HDMI, Audio out, and microSD (512G max). No network RJ. I used the microSD slot with a 256G flash card, and it worked like another HD. The unit's touchpad includes a finger print scanner, which once configured, makes logging in almost effortless. The "Tuned by THX" audio has a good sound, but I don't hear much difference compared to my other devices. This notebook has a very good all-around feel. Its size, solid feel, nice keyboard, high-res screen, very good battery life, and fast operation make it a winner. It's easy to get used to an SSD's speed, compared to a standard HD; you notice when you go back to another computer. Even my i7 2T HD desktop had me finger tapping where I wasn't with this notebook's i5 and 256G SSD. Nice sound together with the dedicated media keys make this notebook a good choice to view and play media.

User Friendly

Wow, Gateway is back at again. It's been awhile since I've seen a brand new, original product from Gateway. The laptop is very slim and feels sturdy but not heavy. Great for travel or work since it's easy to tote around. The setup is pretty interesting. Voice activated by Cortana. Setup was easy and pretty quick to do - basics like signing in and linking your Microsoft accounts. The fingerprint scan is pretty cool. Took me awhile to see where the little sensor was on the touchpad but it was easy to set it up to recognize fingerprint. And it does work to unlock the laptop more easily having to type in my password everytime. The fingerprint sensor is not glitchy or slow; it works pretty fast. The laptop is running Windows 10 and it's pretty fast. I didn't notice any lag or anything. I was able to set up all my usual programs and download anything else I needed. This version is best for business and school related use - not for gaming. It's very basic and user friendly. The sound seems average to me. I didn't notice anything special but I think it's about the average sound quality for a laptop, which is fine for me. The webcam is also good. I was able to do several virtual meetings with no problems. Plenty of space for causal computing. A good basic laptop that would probably be a good school or work device; especially since a lot of people are working remotely right now.
