The razor gives a close comfortable shave. As close as a blade razor

The razor gives a close comfortable shave.As close as a blade razor.What I didn't like was the lack of instructions about the first use.In spite of the LCD showing 100% battery when the razor arrived, it stopped running in the middle of the first shave.I took the foil off and turned on the razor and it just "chugged" and never started up.The LCD still showed 100% charge.I put the razor on charge for a couple of hours and the razor worked fine and still does.The LCD shows a declining level of charge as I use the razor, as expected..If you buy one of these razors, charge it for a couple of hours when you first get it regardless of what the LCD says.It's a great razor.

Outstanding on every level except ....... cheap looming plastic.

Panasonic has always been a pioneering provider of electric razors. This machine is exceptionally outstanding on every level. Particularly in oscillating speed, smooth foil design and quite operation. The only catch is in material. No Longer produced in Japan, Chineese fingerprints is all over its cheap looking plastic frame. ..... Shame!

The Path Chosen

I am very satisfied for the money spent and the features in this Panasonic shaver ES-RT51-S.Any electric shave should be followed by a razor to get any missed hairs not wanted, PERIOD.The RPM's of this NON-LINEAR motor are adequate and the general shave is satisfactory.As always, a touch up with my quad razor and Bob's your Uncle.No razor burn, and this all done with no water,shaving cream,or lotion of any kind.It features a tilting head to follow contours, pop-up trimmer, button lock, digital charge remaining display, wet/dry use, comfortable in hand rubber grip with angled ribs, corded charger included, and free delivery.I bought this as a back up to my very old Panasonic ES-8017, which I have replaced the batteries myself with rechargeable batteries.Here lies the Achilles heal to most Panasonic shavers:They use special proprietary batteries which cost $20+ for two little batteries that look like a AA battery only that they have a metal prong welded on each end.The prong system interconnects in a V-groove connector. I refuse the price gouging of the replacement battery.Sanyo Enloop AA batteries to the rescue, which powers the unit fine. The problem is, the Panasonic recharger won't recharge the batteries.Thus we will be cutting the cord on the old Panasonic charger and soldering it into the Sanyo charger.Now I will be able to charge my shaver and/or a set AA batteries.This all would be avoidable if Panasonic would make the entire line of shavers using the standard AA battery. Make money selling shavers and have HAPPY HAPPY customers, instead of ending the experience with a $20+ set of batteries. For $40 I have a whole new shaver as a back up, and plenty of time for modifications to my new charging system.Thus, the path chosen.
