Stopped working after 6 months due to a software flaw

Mine worked pretty well with the iOS Konnect App and Amazon's Alexa voice service for about six months. I have a mesh WiFi network that has a separate 2.4 ghz-only network for 'internet-of-things' devices. I don't recall having any trouble pairing the unit with this network. The presets from both the DTV+ controller and the Konnect App are seen by the voice service as scenes, so you can even say ', turn on'. Perhaps I shouldn't have used family members' first names as preset names... I noticed that this unit wasn't working about a week ago, although no notification of loss of function was given. Attempts to re-pair the unit with the DTV+ system yielded 'Error 525' with no further explanation besides a recommendation to call an 800 number. It turns out the security certificate on the unit expired two weeks ago. Apparently it was good for only two years when it was really supposed to be good for ten. At this point the only way to get this fixed is to send it back for a software update. Efficient (the first agent I spoke with had the solution) tech support and no charge for the 'repair' but it'll be a week or two before this is up and running again. Wonder if it will last ten years.
