To Hell with the Hustle: Reclaiming Your Life in an Overworked, Overspent, and Overconnected World

THWTH is one of my favorite books of 2019. I've read it twice now, and my biggest takeaway is the encouragement and permission to say “no”. No to hurry, too many activities, and Western consumerism/perfectionism/individualism. No to continuing a family legacy of burnout, disappointment and separation. No to years and identities defined by the devices in our hands. No to filling our days so full that we can never spontaneously say “yes” to our neighbors, friends and opportunities to serve that come up. No to so many other things that don't bring life. I never would've imagined our family could get so much joy from saying no! This is just one of the many gold nuggets in THWTH. We've been reading Jeff's books and watching his videos since the beginning. He always clearly presents truths, and is incredibly convicting, but with so much grace for our humanness and differing circumstances. You finish his books feeling inspired and closer to God, never shamed. We're in an age where everyone who doesn't agree with you on politics, homosexuality, essential oils, or vaccines is probably “hated by God” or “doomed”. It's absolutely wonderful to read Jeff's books and feel like he lovingly says “this is Jesus and His vision for you and your family. It doesn't matter who or where you are, just start with one step/formation/change”. There's a clear and poignant message, with no hatred or vitriol thrown in. At least that's always been our impression, and why we will continue to buy the Bethkes' books!
