Evelyn is a reticulated giraffe from Kenya. Ever wondered what those antennae at the top of a giraffe's head are? Us too! They're called ossicones and are made from cartilage that has been ossified, or turned into hard bone. Imagine if your ears or the front part of your nose (both made from cartilage), as you aged, slowly were converted into hard bone. That's what it would feel like to have the ossicones of a giraffe. One time, Evelyn was being bullied by another giraffe at school. Her older brother came to her rescue and intimidated the bully with his ossicones, which are used by male giraffes to fight!
