The Mainstays Stainless Steel Motion Sensor Trash Can is perfect for large families or busy environments. For improved cleanliness and hygiene, this trash can operates with infrared motion sensor technology to allow you to simply wave your hand above the sensor at the front of the lid to open it automatically. The lid will remain open as long as there is an object in front of the sensor and close gently five seconds after the object is removed. If a hand or object breaks the infrared beam between the lid and the sensor while it’s closing, re-triggering technology opens the lid again to prevent lid from closing on your hand. Perfectly sized to accommodate any standard 13 gallon trash can liner.

This is the second time I have ordered this trash can and it is still a very good trash can because it keeps me from having to touch the lid, is easy to clean and does not take up too much space in my kitchen. The only downside is that it opens each time I come near, but that does not diminish the pros of this trash can.

When I saw the price on this one, my first thought was "What's wrong with it?" After reading the various reviews, it seemed that the biggest issue was the condition they were being delivered in. I had prepared myself in case mine arrived dented, but was very pleased when it was delivered in perfect condition! The color is a vibrant red, and pairs well with the other red accents in my kitchen. The top-open sensor is very sensitive and walking by the can caused it to open. So I moved it to another location that is equally accessible but not as heavily trafficked. I've been using it for about a week now and have no complaints.

Best trash can to have!
I normally don’t write reviews, but when I was deciding which trash can to get the reviews helped me a great deal. Walmart has the best price compared to competitors wanting up to more than double for the same item. I have had it for 2 weeks and LOVE IT. You learn how close to wave and it has worked well for me and I’m in the kitchen cooking a lot. It’s been one of the best additions in the kitchen. I can finally throw stuff in the trash when hands are covered with anything while cooking and don’t have to worry about dirtying the outside of the trash can while trying to open it.
