Mala's mother was an elf who died when Mala was an infant. Her father, Mestophelies, is a powerful wizard and ruler of Valacanda. On Mala's fourteenth birthday her father is kidnapped and she must travel to the dark side and face her evil uncle Saldorian to save him.
