American Babies is first and foremost a group of friends and principle songwriter Tom Hamilton prefers it that way. What started as a group of friends sharing stories in their spare time, has quickly blossomed into one of the most roots-rock bands to emerge from Brooklyn's underground music scene. American Babies first came together after Hamilton, a singer/songwriter already making waves in the indie rock scene, started work a new batch of Americana-songs to pass the time while on the road. Naturally, he began sharing his stories with some of his closes confidants, including his older brother Jim Hamilton, a professionally trained musician with a gift for harmony and rhythm, and drummer extraordinaire Joe Russo, one half of instrumental-rock sensation the Benevento- Russo Duo. Soon after, the trio started laying down demos and the floodgates immediately opened. After fleshing out their arrangements on the live stage, the group entered the studio with veteran producer Jon Altschiller to create their emotionally-charged self-titled debut, AMERICAN BABIES. Recruiting a who's who of northeast talent, including old friends like vibraphone-wiz Kevin Kendrick, piano-ace Aron Magner and a full string section, the Babies effortlessly laid down 11 original compositions, ranging from the gentle, harmony-laced "Swimming at Night" to the infectious, tawngy "Invite Your Friends".
