Creamy and Opaque

I've been using another brand of water-miscible oils for 4-5 years, and discovered that Cobra seems to be the preferred brand of many artists, particularly in the UK. They have a thick creamy consistency, not sticky at all, while remaining opaque. Consistent color - I notice no shift as they dry. If you are sensitive to paint odors, as I am, these have almost none. I'm sold. Will be ordering more colors, now, and gradually switching over entirely to Cobra.

Love

Being able to work with oils now is great. Please keep in mind, water soluble oils work best with their lines specific mediums. I strongly don't recommend using water unless you're cleaning brushes. Water will ruin the chemistry in the long run & your art won't be archival. Water soluble oil mediums exist for a reason. Use them.

Now I can paint in oils!

These are real oil paints, folks! Cleanup is quick and easy and I don't have to mess with turpentine (I can't deal with the fumes). I use Cobra Quick Drying medium to speed up the drying time so I can stay on schedule. I have experimented only once with thinning the paints slightly with water (it's very important not to exceed the recommended percentage of water to paint). The water-thinned paint dried quickly on its own but I didn't like the consistency as I was applying the paint. It didn't go on smoothly. Quite probably my lack of experience, but I didn't try that again. (I mention this because being water-mixable is a big selling point for some people.)
