Simmons 8 Point Rifle Scope 3-9x 40mm Truplex Reticle Matte Black

WalMart offered this on a 50% discount, so I lept without looking. The shipping carton contained the scope, a set of low-profile rings suitable for a Picatinny rail, an "L" shaped Torx tool, and an elastic, bikini-style lens cover. I degreased the rings, the mounting screws, and the scope body using alcohol and a lint-free towel. I also used blue Loctite on the screws. Once I got the thing mounted on my .44 Mag carbine, I went outside to test the optics. The image is crisp %26 bright at all magnifications, with only a little edge distortion at 9x. At the range, I found the windage %26 elevation turrets can be adjusted by hand--no tools required. The clicks are both audible %26 tactile, and the impact point moves in a predictable way. I fired about 40 rounds and the scope held up fine. Only time will tell if such and inexpensive scope can tolerate lots of shooting, but so far so good. I like the scope so much I may buy another for my .22 rifle. Note: I have not tinkered with the focus (diopter?) and I have not tested the thing in low light conditions, so I can't speak to those topics. However, on a gloomy, overcast day at the shooting range, it was plenty bright.
