Great cookbook

I grew up in Miami being both a descendant of Cubans and also a member of a wider Caribbean community, so it's always a great pleasure to see more plant-based recipes inspired by the cultures of that region! Bryant Terry has made a name for himself being a professional chef who carefully considers the cultural and societal implications of our food choices. NPR has also done a segment of him and his work that you can look up. We really enjoyed the Chilled Watermelon Soup with Quick-Pickled Cucumber and Mint (serve in place of gazpacho on ultra-hot days when you can't be bothered to eat full meals.) I also enjoyed the spin on classic Cuban maduros that I regularly make in the Muscovado-Roasted Plantains. I haven't made them yet, but I'm super excited to try his Jamaican Patties Stuffed with Maque Choux one of these weekends when I'm free! Every recipe is accompanied by suggestions for songs, movies and even books to enjoy while you're cooking and eating. That's a really cool idea to play with multisensory enjoyment. This hardback cookbook is filled with lovely pictures and looks great on my cooking shelf. One critique that may concern certain folks is that there's not a lot of athletically-high protein recipes here. I have a vegan bodybuilder friend who also has this book, but has to make major alterations to the recipes to meet their higher-than-normal protein needs.

Great cookbook

Afro vegan is an amazing cookbook! I loved the lil tofu po boys so much and there are so many recipes that are interesting in flavor and so yummy. I'd call myself a medium skill home chef and can cook most of the recipes pretty easily.
