Switchfoot may be part of a surfer's lingo, but its true identity is based more on Christian music's popular alternative group than on waves and boards. Although the four-member band has roots reaching deep into the waters off San Diego's prime surfing spots, their popularity reaches even deeper into the hearts of their fans.

Switchfoot's former three albums have all explored the parameters of Christian music, holding true to its uniqueness as a band that can't be confined or labeled. Their latest release, The Beautiful Letdown, possesses the same genuine creativity that fans have come to expect. Each song is as individual as it is unique -- a distinctive journey mapped out by sincerity and originality.

The Beautiful Letdown rejects the idea of life being easy and trouble-free. Instead the album sheds light on the tense reality of humanity; it's hardships and weaknesses. In the title track, Switchfoot destroys any blindness about living in the world and opens the listeners eyes to the Heavenly alternative waiting for anyone who wants it. Why is this letdown beautiful? Because only if we see the world for what it really is, will we crave what is to come.

Prepare to be lost in contemplation over "This Is Your Life." This fresh alternative piece characterizes the entire album as it confronts the real question: This is your life, are you who you want to be? Face reality and choose who you want to be, who you want to follow and who you want to place your trust in. Life is more than the day-to-day monotony that we face. Does your life have purpose and meaning?

The album transitions smoothly between the aggressive, earthy "Meant To Live" and "Ammunition" to the slower ballads "On Fire" and "Twenty-Four." This musical mix enlivens the album, keeping it real and genuine to Switchfoot's mission. . . be true to the song, not the market.

"On Fire" urges you to dump the ignorance of "living in the now," forget the useless world tendency to only think about today and step closer to God. "You're on fire when He's near you/You're on fire when He speaks/You're on fire burning at these mysteries." Go to the edge and see beyond today into tomorrow.

It's your choice. Listen to The Beautiful Letdown for the sheer pleasure of hearing Switchfoot mastering it again, or really listen and have it motivate you into realizing the futility of today and the value of forever in eternity. Either way, The Beautiful Letdown has earned its rightful place in your stereo.

one of the best

This CD is one of the best I've ever heard. It's one of the very few CDs that I can actually listen to the whole way through without skipping any songs. For such a low price, it is definately worth it to check this CD out.
