It's filled with moments that remind us that life is fragile and the times you get to enjoy those little moments of joy just being a regular child and mom are precious and can never be taken for granted. We also catch a glimpse of the unwritten challenges and the battles the author tackled as she stood up to powerful people and institutions. Of course, the book ends on a triumphant note thanks to the selfless institutions and individuals who helped along the way with a life-changing therapy. It's beautiful to see the bond forged between Tyrene and Aya as they faced the challenge together over the years, helping each other with love and drawing upon each other's strength while reflecting and reinforcing the best in each other! This book deserves a wide audience not least of which is to drive awareness about the options available for sickle cell anemia! It makes a beautiful gift during women's history month. A great read!
