Rear Gate Adds Appreciable Function and Stability

I have owned one of these Tipke carts for the past 12 years, but it was stolen off the back porch where it was locked with a bicycle cable. I could not be without one so I ordered a new one as replacement. I use it not only as a yard cart/wheelbarrow, but as a cargo cart that attaches to a bicycle seat post and as my grocery cart in the store. I had never had the full height rear gate before (it is an optional attachment) but it seemed a good idea to add one this time around. Turns out the full-height rear gate is a great idea! It not only seals off that end of the cargo portion to reduce spillage of bark, leaves and soil, allowing me to use the full capacity as a yard cart, but on-the-road when I'm pulling it behind my bicycle it adds structural integrity to the cart as a whole and helps to assure nothing falling out of the cart when I have to put on the brakes all of a sudden. Like the rest of the cart, the gate is made of aluminum, so it never rusts or needs painting. It fastens to the rear of the cart in very same manner as the standard front gate on the main flat portion and in the area where the frame and body of the cart cut back, two folded "wings" of the aluminum act as channel-clips to fasten the sides of the top lip portion firmly to the cart. Where the gate mates with the floor of the cart a tongue and groove fix it solidly locked in and a flange covers the space so fine grained cargo like sand or fertilizer cannot fall through the crack. I could not be more pleased with the added functionality and stability the rear gate provides.
