The inclusion of activated carbon granules optimizes your aquarium filtration by removing toxins and odors. The FiltoSmart Thermo filters are engineered with integrated locking features in the inlet/outlet connection unit to ensure no mess maintenance. Very pleased with the filter. The flow isn't as good as I expected but I have it 8n a 20 gallon tank so does fine for that size. Not sure it would do the job adequately if a 55 gallon.
