I've been watching this series since The Last Airbender released in 2005, and I'm a big fan of it.
Legend of Korra is takes place 70 years after the events of The Last Airbender.
Avatar Aang has passed and Korra, a water bender from the southern water tribe, is born as the new avatar. She has learned all of the elements except air.
Korra leaves the southern water tribe for Republic City in which she plans to meet Tenzin (Aang's son) so he can teach her air bending.
After arriving in Republic City, she runs into an anti-bender rally who she tries to reason with but ultimately fails and gives them more "gun powder" to use against benders. Korra leaves, and then runs into some crooks stealing from a shop owner.
Playing the 'hero' she saw herself as, she uses her bending to stop the crooks, causing total wreckage in the process. She succeeds in stopping the crooks and waits for the police to come arrest them, which they do, but to Korra's surprise they arrest her too for causing the wreckage.
Korra is sent to jail, in which she meets Lin Beifong (Toph's daughter). After realizing who she was, Korra tries to reason with Beifong, telling her she was the avatar, and that her mother and Aang were friends. Lin Beifong, well aware of who Korra was, didnt care. Tenzin, who was surprised because Korra was supposed to stay in the southern water tribe until he could go himself to be her mentor, interrupts and reasons with Lin Beifong to release Korra.
Tenzin, frustrated at Korra for her disobedience and ready to send her back to the southern water tribe, had a change of mind. He agrees to let Korra stay. The next day/ morning, Korra heads to the main hall to announce her staying to help the city and to meet the president, all of which is heard by the main antagonist, Amon, who is the leader of the anti-bender group and now have an obstacle: the avatar.
