Compare to Prevacid® 24HR active ingredient. Equate Lansoprazole Delayed-Release Capsules 15 mg is a Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI). PPIs actually deactivate the pumps in the stomach lining from producing acid, significantly inhibiting acid production (and its overproduction) at the source. PPIs are available over-the-counter or as a prescription to treat ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and erosive esophagitis. PPIs include store-brand Omeprazole Delayed Release Tablets 20 mg (treats the same symptoms as Prilosec OTC®) and Lansoprazole Delayed-Release Capsules, 15 mg (treats the same symptoms as Prevacid® 24HR), to treat frequent heartburn that occurs two or more days per week. These products may take 1 to 4 days to work initially and are not indicated for immediate relief of frequent heartburn. Over-the-counter PPIs such as Omeprazole Delayed Release Tablets 20 mg and Lansoprazole Delayed-Release Capsules, 15 mg should be used as a 14-day course of treatment every four months. You should not take PPIs for more than 14 days unless directed by your doctor. Indications: Treats frequent heartburn occurring two or more days a week.

Warnings: Allergy alert: Do not use if you are allergic to lansoprazole. Do not use: if you have trouble or pain swallowing food, vomiting with blood, or bloody or black stools. These may be signs of a serious condition. See your doctor. Ask a doctor before use if you have: liver disease; had heartburn over 3 months. This may be a sign of a more serious condition; heartburn with lightheadedness, sweating or dizziness; chest pain or shoulder pain with shortness of breath; sweating; pain spreading to arms, neck or shoulders; or lightheadedness; frequent chest pain; frequent wheezing, particularly with heartburn; unexplained weight loss; nausea or vomiting; stomach pain. Ask a doctor or pharmacist before use if you are: taking a prescription drug. Acid reducers may interact with certain prescription drugs. Stop use and ask a doctor if: your heartburn continues or worsens; you need to take this product for more than 14 days; you need to take more than 1 course of treatment every 4 months; you get diarrhea; you develop a rash or joint pain. If pregnant or breast-feeding, ask a health care professional before use. Keep out of reach of children. In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center right away (1-800-222- 1222).

Instructions
Directions: adults 18 years of age and older; this product is to be used once a day (every 24 hours), every day for 14 days; it may take 1 to 4 days for full effect, although some people get complete relief of symptoms within 24 hours. 14-Day Course of Treatment: swallow 1 capsule with a glass of water before eating in the morning; take every day for 14 days; do not take more than 1 capsule a day; swallow whole. Do not crush or chew capsules; do not use for more than 14 days unless directed by your doctor. Repeated 14-Day Courses (if needed): you may repeat a 14-day course every 4 months; do not take for more than 14 days or more often than every 4 months unless directed by a doctor; children under 18 years of age: ask a doctor before use. Heartburn in children may sometimes be caused by a serious condition.

Prefer Over 30mg Rx. Work w/Gastro or other Doc
I've used lansoprazole for a long time to address acid stomach and acid reflux, but dosage/combo changes sometimes necessary to remain effective. Lansoprazole is taken 30 minutes before breakfast (also just before bed if a health provider recommends as mine did). The evening dose was fine, but if I wait longer than 30 minutes to eat, I begin to feel a bit unwell and headachy. That effect is less with the 15mg OTC dose than the 30mg prescription does. I'm glad Walmart has the 42 count 3-pack available at such a reasonable price, but the packaging is excessive. Much more ecologically sound would be a single plastic bottle preferably without cardboard around it. Walmart does sell 200 ct famotidine in one small bottle which is great. My current regimen is one OTC 20 mg famotidine before bed and one OTC 15 mg lansoprazole in the AM. As per my gastroenterologist, these product work differently and the combo used this way might be more effective than 2-a -day lansoprazole. It has been.

I've tried several other PPI meditations, but Prevacid (lansoprosole) works best for me. I can eat more spicy dishes and not be bothered I by heartburn. Also, I don't wake up in the morning with a burning throat. So glad it's avaliable.
