Good magnet, no problems, hits needed 2m repeaters

The XYL's hobby is genealogy, so every once in a while she asks me to drive through various cemeteries; these trips can take all day and cover several hundreds of miles. Though I'm happy to accommodate her, I don't have her enthusiasm for finding her ancestors. My needs called for an antenna to be used on my van with an HT while traveling. So, I program the frequencies into a HT via computer before leaving home, connect up the antenna, and away we go! Other than these trips, the antenna sits in the garage. I've owned a number of mobile antennas over the years, both CB and ham; this one is no different than any other mag mount and should be repairable if it fails. There were a couple of complaints about water egress, so make sure the included "O" ring is on the antenna mast before screwing it into the base. Happy Trails... K9JFK

Outstanding performance and great price

I got my amateur license 35 years ago, and I feel this antenna is definitely a good deal ... even better than some of the no-name "cheapie" antennas offered at hamfests. Testing the antenna on the roof of my car, using an MFJ analyzer, the SWR is 1.2 or better across the 2M and the 70cm bands. That is amazingly flat, especially for such a low price! In fact it beats two other mag mount antennas that I already had, both of which cost more than this Tram. To top it off, Walmart has the lowest price I could find online for this antenna. Combine that with free ship-to-store service in three days, and it's an unbeatable deal. I'll definitely report on this at our next monthly amateur club meeting. I recommend this without reservation.

Tough to beat

I'm usually not one to make many reviews, but this one, I think deserves one. I've never heard of Tram brand antennas, but when I saw WalMart sells these, and for only $16, I thought, "What the heck...it's cheap, and can be used as a disposable unit." Very well built, strong magnet, and the tuning was right on. I think I found a winner, and will be getting another, for my other car.
