Professional wrestling as a form of entertainment has elements that no other sport captures. Part soap opera, part macho posturing, battles of good and evil are played out for the indulgence of throngs of fans as the athletes are raised up to superstardom. Music has always played an integral role in this phenomenon, as entrance themes make struts to the ring all the more dramatic. In progressive fashion, even ring announcers are stepping up to the microphone; not to comment on matches, but to sing (Lilian Garcia is now a Universal Records artist).
WWE ANTHOLOGY traces the history of this marriage of music and wrestling, from the campy themes sung about (and eventually performed by) many of the stars of the day (most famously the Rick Derringer-penned "Real American") to contemporary heavy hitters such as Lil' Kim weighing in on ("Time To Rock & Roll" with Trish Stratus). Each of the three discs in this mammoth set chronicles the touchstones of the medium.
