Flotec Submersible Utility Pump 1/6 HP - Portable - 1 Piece

A good pump that's changed very little over the years. It can be run dry w/o causing any damage, though I wouldn't recommend doing that for very long. The cord in this package is the weak link and definitely could benefit from adding some strain relief near where it screws into the pump. Previous Flotecs I've owned have developed internal breaks in the wire(s) at this point, no matter how careful I've been with them. Flotec has smartly changed the 2 screws on the top of the pump over to stainless, but has curiously left the bottom screws regular zinc coated steel. If you plan on leaving this pump in a continuously wet environment (such as in a basin), I would STRONGLY you change those over to stainless as well. The pump has an internal overheat protection switch but, to ensure long motor life, don't let it get to that point. Try to keep the motor housing in contact with the liquid it's pumping (which presumably is cool) to keep temps down. This is especially important if the pump needs to run for long periods. I lay mine on its side to make sure this happens.
