Doesn't work

Bought new batteries to try it out, battery compartment difficult to open and to put backing back on. Either the remote died as soon as the tv turned on or only the power button worked (wont turn off tv or do anything else). I turned off the tv and put other batteries in and now it does nothing. All the buttons are stiffer than the original remote and extremely disappointed in the quality.
