Sonic's history is full of love it and hate it moments. Despite that Sonic Generations is a game that celebrates the blue blur's entire history, remastering many key levels in full high definition 3D. You are able to play both classic and modern Sonic, each with a unique style of their own. With classic Sonic, return to the SEGA Genesis styled gameplay many fans know and love. Even the music in modern stages, as classic Sonic, has been remixed to be reminiscent of those sweet times. As modern Sonic, return to the past with new tricks up your sleeve such as the high speed boost and homing attack, reliving your greatest moments in a new way and in stunning 3D. Sonic Generations also allows you to unlock and purchase additional skills for each Sonic such as the elemental shields from Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Super Sonic. You can customize skill sets and use them to improve your mobility as well, reducing the knockback from getting hit by enemies for example. This customization makes the experience more fun, and it doesn't stop there. You can unlock music from many of the Sonic games as well and then choose any song you'd like to play in a level. Highly recommend Stardust Speedway Bad Future remix for the Metal Sonic rival battle. Speaking of boss battles, I personally wish there were more and that controlling Sonic during the final boss weren't so poorly done but the boss battles that are here are excellent. The boss battle for the Dreamcast era is especially epic. You can even unlock a costume for your avatar as a reward defeating all of the bosses on hard mode. There are nine levels total with two acts and numerous missions. Coupling that with collecting red star rings and unlocking various things (such as music and artwork), this game is highly replayable. There are also online leaderboards for time attack mode as well as a mode that lets you play through each level, challenging you to get as far as you can in 30 seconds. Then you can compete with your friends and push to get further than they did. Sonic Generations is one of the best Sonic games of all time and is highly recommended to any Sonic fan or anyone who might be interested in becoming one.
