Of multiple Keens I tried, these were the best!

I wear a size 5 street shoe, and that makes it impossible to find my size in any store to try. So, between Keen and REI, I bought (and returned) the Newports, Hyperports, Whispers, Astoria West, and Rose, searching for an option I could use for a trip to Costa Rica. Right off the bat, sizing up by a half size was necessary for all Keen sandals. The size 5 Hyperports I initially tried rubbed badly at my heel and the inner side of my foot. From there, I purchased all the styles in 5. 5. I found the Newports and Rose uppers to be too stiff and low volume- the uppers pressed very hard into my feet, making them uncomfortable even when sitting down. The Astorias have so much cushion in the sole, it felt like I was bouncing with every step I took (I know this feeling is popular for some sneakers too- but it's not for me). The Whispers were probably the most comfortable fit of the sandals I tried- no rubbing at all, but they also had the least sole and arch support. After walking in them for one hour, I could feel my feet getting tired and could definitely feel uneven pavement or tree roots through the softer soles. The Hyperports (at a half size up from my street shoe size) were the best fit all around- the right amount of support and stability, and the uppers didn't press too much. I used the Hyperports for rafting and canyoning- they dried decently well overnight despite the humid weather. However, I learned that I don't find them comfortable for a dry hike/walk for anything more than about one hour at a power-walk pace; the rubbing issue I experienced on the inner side of my foot in the smaller size became an issue again (though the heel rubbing is not a problem). If I wear socks, though, they are comfortable for longer walks! The Hyperports have become my go-to for errands and shorter walks and I'm excited to use them for future water adventures!

Very light!!

Very comfortable after a few wears to break in. The back rubbed against my heal and hurt a little bit right out of the box. After a wearing around the house and then outside for about a week the discomfort went away. I also got a pair of the Newport H2 in case I decided to return the Hyperport. I love the look and feel of the Newports but Hyperport feels a bit lighter so I haven't decided yet.

Fav Sandals

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I now have these in beige and in black. They might be my favorite sandals ever. I appreciate the extra protection around the toes. They are super comfortable.
