Barbie Ballet Wishes Doll with Layered Tutu Skirt & Tiara

My five-year-old granddaughter, who is taking dance lessons, requested a ballerina in a tutu for her birthday. My first search on Walmart's website found a basic ballerina Barbie -- only $5! -- available as a blue-eyed blonde or or a darker, raven-haired beauty. That one would have been O.K., but it lacks the special touches like the braided hair and beribboned ballet slippers of the Ballet Wishes doll. If you can afford the extra twenty bucks, this one's the one. My granddaughter is quite captivated by it. It looks like a collector's doll -- finely detailed, grandly costumed, if a bit decollete -- but it looks as if it will stand up to quite a lot of playing. (Keep an eye on those shoes, though; they are tiny and could get lost rather easily.) The arms and legs are ridiculously skinny, but that's the classic Barbie, isn't it? The doll's knees bend, for dancing poses. For collectors, perhaps, more than for little girls, there's a stand for display.
