The support pieces don't stay in place but aren't really necessary as long as you don't need to completely extend it. It works great for our purpose but is a little flimsy and would not be appropriate imo for a hyper or strong dog that would push or jump against it.

It's perfect for people who don't have really pushy dogs or pushy children.And someone who's on the older side that cannot lift their leg too much.Over also handy, for elderly, or somebody who cannot lift.Heavy things.100% recommend it.
