Great surf fishing reel

I purchased this reel specifically for surf fishing, wanting a sealed reel for use in and around blowing sand and saltwater. I spooled the reel with 15 lb. Big Game Mono have fished on the beach with the it twice since buying it a week ago. My initial observations of the Slammer III 5500: smooth, powerful, and well built. I have it mounted on a 8'-0" Penn Prevail but may buy a 9'-0" Penn Carnage II surf rod for my fishing.

Great surf reels

I use these reels for surf fishing in NC and they work great. The liveliner feature lets u set a secondary drag for a bait feeder(so big fish don’t steal ur rigs when in a rod holder) I know have 3 ,2 8500s with 50lb braid and 12 ft ugly sticks and 4500 with 8 ft ugly stick .a lot of guys use shimanos ,but price and quality cant beat these penns.

I love Penn Reels

I bought this 4500SSV a couple weeks ago and have spooled it up with almost 300yds of 30# braid and put it on a Penn MH inshore rod I had. I will put it to work later this week. It cranks very smooth and the dragseems very smooth at various settings. I bought my first my first two Spinfishers over 30 years ago and this one makes it 5 Spinfishers and 2 Battles and they all still work great.
