One defective hardware item prevented installation

I could not complete the installation of this very fine bamboo toilet seat because the chrome button hardware on the left side which also allows removal for cleaning of the seat was defective and would not stay pushed in. The one on the right side was fine. As a result of the defect, only the right side could be secured to the toilet bowl in the top back of the bowl.
