Soft quilted fabric that's breathable. No sweating like the disposable pads with plastic on the bottom. I don't have heavy incontinence, but I had my full 32oz hydro flask slow leak water onto the pad and it absorbed it with just a bit of dampness on the underside! I've knocked over a regular 16 oz water bottle, spilled about 6oz quick before I grabbed it, and the water rolled off instead of being absorbed by the pad. I think most people with urinary or fecal incontinence wear an overnight pad in their underwear, so it would be a slow leak that's easily absorbed. I mostly use these for peace of mind. I've had problems since having a severely diseased gallbladder removed. A few years ago, during a severe illness, I had fecal incontinence that was just water %26 bile. It leaked out of Depends with added pads inside. I put towels down, but still had some soak through to the sheets. It happened again a year ago staying with family in a guest bedroom - sharing a bed with my daughter a few days before her wedding. I was traumatized %26 humiliated! I hadn't had issues for a long time due to a careful diet, but had done a lot of restaurant %26 home cooked family dinner eating. My capable daughter, who worked at a care center, told me to stop crying %26 get in the shower %26 she'd clean up the bedding. She magically had gloves on %26 said she deals with this all the time. These rare occasions have made it impossible for me to fall asleep without one of these pads underneath me. I bought the 35x57”size so I can turn over without worrying about being off the pad. I have 4 %26 they wash up well. I recommend NOT using fabric softener so they're more absorbent. Mostly, they keep my bed cleaner, and smelling fresh. I have mild urinary incontinence after 4 babies, %26 the adhesive pads worn in underwear shift during the night. It's just a drop or two on the unpadded area of my undergarments, but I don't want my sheets to smell like pee!
