We bought this one about 7 years ago and the base was metal (this one is very hard plastic), BUT the wheels that come with this one are much better than year ago, so are quite a few features with the arm rests, and the height and back adjustments. There is less foam and less places for dust to hang out. It swivels and wheels quite nicely and so far has been holding up to our abuse like before. :)

This dexley chair has served me well in the last month and i have no complaints about the quality or longevity. I bought it on sales ~$170 and think it is the best chair for the price i could have found
