When I first opened the package the jaws seemed to be plastic; but they aren't. It's an all metal clamp, except for the handle and the removal tabs (that protect the piece being clamped). The movable jaw slides easily for adjustment, but it's very secure, for two reasons: the bar is slightly toothed, and the jaw has a slight angle. I used one of the two clams I bought, and it worked very well. This was a very good buy (from Walmart) given the value and the low price.
