Two out of three ain't bad

Three Cuisinart Brew Central 14 cup Coffee makers within three weeks: My ten or so year old Mr. Coffee began to leak, so I was in the market for a new coffee maker and found a good price in this 14 cup Cuisinart Brew Central. I liked that one well enough to get another for a seasonal home, and Walmart popped up on Google with the identical one for nearly half the price. The seller wasn't Walmart, but rather a third party retailer Walmart only sells and fulfills for. The seller's listing did not specify new or used, didn't go into much detail, but curiously the description stated No Warranty, and the retailer's name suggested they might be an overstock liquidator. Since I already owned one and knew what to expect, I went ahead and ordered it. It arrived promptly, in the original packaging, but the box looked like it had been opened then taped back shut. Other than that the packaging was exactly as the other one. , It looked shiny as new, good, but was missing the 5 paper starter filters that had come with the first, and when the sun hit the carafe, it showed some faint water spots. I couldn't register the warranty with Cuisinart on line , and Cuisinart's Customer Service rep, after looking up the serial number, said that particular model was made exclusively by Cuisinart for a Big Box retailer, and so it only carried that retailer's warranty. Thinking it was perhaps a factory reconditioned unit, I decided to keep it anyway. It started out brewing somewhat noisier than the first one, and by the third brew cycle started making exploding noises as loud as firecrackers, likely steam under pressure being released suddenly. Now the good news: Walmart accepted it back as defective with no problem under their return policy, so I purchased a third one directly from Walmart that same day, which even came with free shipping. I am very grateful to Walmart for standing by the products they sell on line. The third Cuisinart Brew Central works exactly like my first one. They both make very good coffee, the adjustable plate settings keep the coffee nice and hot, without that burnt coffee taste. These are very easy to set up and use. The only thing I don't care for is the cord. The excess cord length not necessary to reach the plug cannot be tucked back into the machine's housing to get it out of the way. Already packed up the other one to go to the cabin when we open it up for the summer!
