Did what I needed
I already had my HDTV hooked to my PC via HDMI, but the oversan was putting the edges out of view, off the edges. I bought this cable and hooked my PC's second DVI port to the HDTV's VGA input, chose "PC" as my TV's source, and was able to see the whole screen; success!
