I'm not sure why some reviews I saw for this said assembly was difficult. It is very easy if you just follow the directions, which are very clear. I ordered two of these bookcases to use as nightstands in a small room. The first one took about an hour to assemble from opening the box to securing it in place. I'm a bit old and slow, so it may be faster for younger, quicker people who don't need to put on and remove reading glasses constantly. There were two extra pieces for every screw and post, so you even have some grace if you lose a part. It comes with an Allen wrench (the L shaped one you get with Ikea furniture) for those types of screws, but you will need your own Philips head screw driver to assemble (for people not aware, that is the X shaped one). You will need to make some minor adjustments to the door hardware to level it out, so be sure to read the last page on how to do that as well. It is very easy if you just *read*. I ordered two, they arrived in a reasonable time, and were not damaged.
