Daniel Asia completed his Symphony No. 1 in 1987. At that time he might have been considered an exponent of what Donal Henahan of the New York Times called post-Webern Impressionism. By the time he completed his Symphony No. 4 in 1993, Asia had evolved towards more neo-Classical forms. This first recording of his two major modern symphonies contrasts two signposts of his stylistic development. It also offers At the Far Edge, a piece described by its composer as 'full of ebullience, jubilation and brash energy, celebrating the fresh and innocent optimism of the young.'
