Mikael Blomkvist, crusading journalist and publisher of the magazine Millennium, has decided to run a story that will expose an extensive sex trafficking operation between Eastern Europe and Sweden, implicating well-known and highly placed members of Swedish society, business, and government.

But he has no idea just how explosive the story will be until, on the eve of publication, the two investigating reporters are murdered. And even more shocking for Blomkvist: the fingerprints found on the murder weapon belong to Lisbeth Salander—the troubled, wise-beyond-her-years genius hacker who came to his aid in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and who now becomes the focus and fierce heart of The Girl Who Played with Fire.

As Blomkvist, alone in his belief in Salander’s innocence, plunges into an investigation of the slayings, Salander herself is drawn into a murderous hunt in which she is the prey, and which compels her to revisit her dark past in an effort to settle with it once and for all.

I read the triology and each book is amazing. Finished one and couldn't wait to start the next one. Loved the characters; each book is exciting, gripping, and not one dull moment. Only sorry we will never have an opportunity to read more from this wonderful author.

A disappointment for sure.

The heroine of this series, Lisbeth Salander, hardly appears in this book. Lisbeth has the potential to be one of the great "anti-heros" of fiction but she has to be IN the book for it to work. Out of 700+ pages, I would estimate Salander is only in roughly 100 pages. The other pages feature way too many characters. Characters that we will (probably) never see again and characters the reader really shouldn't care about. There were so many extras in this book, I couldn't keep them straight and after a while, I honestly stopped trying. The ending was just awful. Not to give anything away but after reading 700 pages, I was severely disappointed that everything was wrapped up in about 10 pages and even then, the ending was incomplete. The funny thing is, the first book in the series (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) takes TOO LONG to end the story. This one ends too quickly. All in all, I am having a hard time to think of anything else positive to say about the book. Personally, I'm glad I'm done with it. I'll read the third book in the series but I will definitely wait until it's out in paperback.
