Easy open, lid stays up when you need it., big enough space for an 8.5x11 journal or notebook (most have too many sections to accomodate) plus space for pens etc. Comfortable on my lap with or without a footstool to prop myself up. We added a handle to make it easier to pick up one handed and then a magnetic catch to keep the lid closed while being carried by the handle. Just the right space for a few papers, stamps and envelopes. He uses it mostly for writing notes and brief letters.
