I only have used this set frozen, so my review is for the 'cold' aspect. They also include directions for using as a warm compress, too, which makes them quite versatile. I get cellulitis following surgery; elevating, icing and disuse are my first rebuffs for this condition, so I purchased this set to supplement a drug store brand I already had, assuring there would always be one in the freezer. These come w/ light fleece covers for each size (see box for exact sizes, but one abt 5"×9", another maybe 9"×13") with hook and loop closures on wide elasticized, adjustable bands. An additional band is included for add'l placement options. They don't freeze solid, but that makes it easy to shape to the area needing relief, and last more than 30 min. I remove gel packs from the covers (I really dislike 'freezer' smell on plastics) and place in labeled (so I know which cover to use)heavy-duty freezer bags before placing in the freezer. Comparing w/ the drugstore brand: Walmart: - 2 sizes for abt $6 more - freeze to a pliable consistency - covers are thin,inexpensive fleece Drugstore: - about the size of the smaller Walmart gel pack - nice neoprene-type cover is more protective of skin with better construction. - freezes as hard as ice; uncomfortable until sl melted for forehead or other convex areas. - more expensive Overall, I like these heat/ cold packs for their versatility, flexibility, cost and included covers.
