Accurate blood pressure monitor.

The Homedics 700 series 5-day trend upper arm blood pressure monitor, model BPA-100TRBT, seems to be a well made and accurate machine. It comes with a one size soft arm cuff with Velcro closure, a zippered storage bag, a usb to dc power cord and 4 aaa batteries. The included power cord is on the short side which means you have to be close to an outlet to use it. It also comes with pretty extensive instructions in three languages. The unit is Bluetooth compatible but you have to download an app to use. I did not try it with the app because I don’t really need it. The pressure numbers are displayed in large easy to read size. It displays your pulse rate in a smaller size but is still easily read. There is a heart shaped icon that appears if the machine senses an irregular heartbeat. It also has an excessive body motion detector to help with accuracy. The unit keeps track of the measurements for five days which can be pulled up by pressing the memory button. It will keep track of two different users. The hardest thing I found was attaching the arm cuff to my upper arm. If you attach it incorrectly the measurement accuracy is affected. For someone who needs to keep a close watch on your blood pressure I can’t think of any reason not to buy this unit.

Clear & bright display, easy to use, accurate

Got this for my husband to monitor his blood pressure, and he normally grumbles about how difficult it is to learn how to do it. With this monitor, you simply turn it on and put the cuff on your arm and hit the button. It really is that simple. The display is clear and bright and really easy to see. When I measured it against another unit, it was exactly accurate. I have a smaller arm and use the original cuff that comes with the machine. When my husband needs to measure his blood pressure, it's a simple snap off of my cuff and snap on his cuff. It's super easy. The connection is shown in the second picture. The velcro stays tight nicely and doesn't fall down your arm while waiting for it to inflate. Best unit we've ever used.

Homedics BP Monitor, Series 700 good for techies

Reviewing: BPA-100TRBT,Series 700 Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor I found a lot to like about this blood pressure monitor from Homedics, BPA-100TRBT,Series 700 for upper arm use. I also found some features and functionality about it that are more trouble than it’s worth in terms of applicability to and impact on my own personal preferences and habits. As far as the build of this monitor, it is well constructed of hard, durable plastic, similar to many products in this category of home-use medical devices. The cuff is very much like others I’ve used of other upper arm monitors more basic in design and functionality. It fit my arm comfortably well and as long as I don’t snug it too much it inflates to the point where it detects bp accurately without constricting my arm too painfully for my own good. The readout is nice and large so anyone with weak eyesight can still make out the important numbers. The start/stop button is very large, making it easy to control and the backlighting really improves legibility of the information that appears on the monitor display panel. Changing batteries is also very easy as it takes 4 AAA alkaline batteries (do not mix and match with rechargeable batteries; if you use the latter, make sure they are all rechargeable–the manuals says that mixing batteries is no good for the unit). Speaking of the manual, it comes in three separate folded pieces, each written in English, Spanish, and a third language, probably French, I think, I don’t have the manuals at hand to confirm this. It is rather detailed, so plan on setting aside some time to read and understand it. The other items on the display monitor, while integral, may either be too tiny or too abstract to register as clearly understandable, without one’s dedicated effort to remember them through constant use. An example would be the excessive body motion detector, which is a stylized icon of an upper torso and head with a pair of concentric arcs on either side of the icon…on first glance this may confuse someone and they might interpret it as an icon for connectivity–it’s supposed to let you know if you are wiggling too much while trying to operate the monitor. They do include a power cord so that you can switch to DC to power the monitor, but the manual says that every time you do so, you have to reset the date and time if you switch back and forth between DC and battery power. On other BP monitors, if there is an alternate power source on the monitor, there is some buffer time that allows the date/time to stay in memory to allow the new primary power source to take effect so that you don’t have to enter the date/time every single time. Another thing I find a little bothersome is the introduction of bluetooth capability so that it communicate with an app that has to be installed on your smartphone or smart device. For others this feature will be very helpful, but for me installing another app on my phone means I’ll have to uninstall another app, as my Android phone always seems to be running out of storage space for the apps that can’t be moved to the SD card, but this is not a reason not to get this b.p. monitor–I’m just pointing out a potential negative for those who, like me, find that too much technology is not always useful to someone who just wants the information to refer to or to record in a log book by hand. All of my personal notes about the cons aside, I would still get a lot of use out of this monitor and may eventually come around to installing the app to use with my phone (if I get a new phone with far more storage space on the built-in internal micro disc). This really is a great piece of technology and some will use it for its baseline features while others will be able to exploit all of its features. I fall somewhere in between these two extremes.
